Personal Information

I am a psychiatrist and mobile application developer whose work sits at the intersection ofpsychiatry, digital health, and populationbased health services. Since designing my first app in2011, I have led the development of smartphone applications such as “Know Addiction,”“Rhythm,” and “Staff Hours,” which passively record smartphone use, longterm sleepwakepatterns, and work hours. Using these highfrequency digital traces alongside national healthinsurance claims and other largescale datasets, my research program focuses on developing digitalbiomarkers, characterizing circadian and behavioral patterns, and understanding their implicationsfor mental health and functioning. I have published more than 90 articles in international journals(H index=29), includingNeuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews, Journal of Medical Internet Research,Journal of Behavioral Addictions, Brain, Behavior, and Immunity, JAMA Psychiatry, JAMA Pediatrics, and JAMA. I serve as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Medical Internet Researchand as a member of the Editorial Board of theAsian Journal of Psychiatry. My work emphasizes rigorousquantitative methods, transparent reporting, and policy relevance, spanning topics such as digitalphenotyping, internet and smartphone addiction, sleep and circadian rhythms, COVID19 infodemiology, and national mental healthworkforce planning. Earlier in my career, I worked as a product physician at Pfizer Taiwan, which provided experiencein multinational collaboration, clinical trial management, biomedical regulation, and scientificcommunication. I also actively engage in science communication via traditional and social media, including podcasts and visual abstracts, to translate research into accessible messages forclinicians, policymakers, and the public.
