Psychiatry

Our research team specializes in diverse topics within the field of psychiatry, ranging from psychological and behavioral analysis at the individual level to policy-focused studies on the allocation of psychiatric healthcare resources, achieving significant findings across these areas. We place particular emphasis on addressing the trends and challenges in Taiwan’s mental health care system, using national-scale databases to publish impactful studies.

In the realm of mental health, our recent study explored the psychological impact of China’s military threats on the Taiwanese population, revealing a significant association between these external pressures and increased depression, suicide attempts, and intentions to emigrate. In addition, our past research has examined issues such as internet addiction, the influence of media coverage on collective psychological states, and the contexts and interventions related to pregnant women using controlled or illicit substances.

On the policy front, a key focus of our recent work has been analyzing and projecting the supply and demand of psychiatrists in Taiwan from 2005 to 2030. Our research identified methods to address workforce disparities between hospitals and clinics, forecasting potential shortages of psychiatrists in private clinics and providing clear recommendations to optimize and transform Taiwan’s mental health care system.
